NDLEA Arrests 53-year-old Woman,12 Others for Drug Trafficking – The Bayelsa State Command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives, a week ago declared that its operatives have arrested Madam Sinoroba John – 53-year-old woman, and 12 others on alleged possession as well as sale of 20.9 kg of Cannabis Sativa along with other illegal drugs within the state.
Also arrested by the men of the NDLEA are, one Ebi Famoh, Onyebuchi Umenze, Madam Sinoroba John, Erekefe Okparate, Benedict uju and Odiu Benjamin.
The Bayelsa State Commander, NDLEA, Mr. Frank Hanachor, while confirming the development through a statement sent to LEADERSHIP via email, said the arrest of the suspects were effected at various locations in the state.
According to him, the Madam Sinoroba John, from Opokuma in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, was arrested on January 7 at her residence and 20.9 grams of cannabis was discovered.
Also arrested was one Onyebuchi Umenze, a native of Anambra State who was discovered to be engaged in alleged sales of 1.4 grams and 1.1 grams of cocaine along the Etegwe/Tombia bridge in the Bayelsa State capital.       NDLEA commander, Frank Hanachor, described the seizures as a success and said the command also secured 25 convictions in court in the last few months and recorded over 185 arrests of drug suspects in the state with a total seizure of 247.495kg of hard substances.
According to him, some of the suspects were arrested while his men were on duty and suspects handed over to them by the Men of the Nigerian Police, including the arrest of one Erekeji along the East/West with 58kg of cannabis.
Hanachor said, “We are waiting when the courts would resume sittings so that the suspects would be arraigned.”
The commander insisted that drugs cannot make a man, adding that most cases of school
drop outs, domestic assaults and mental disorders are related to the use of hard drugs.
According to him, “nothing good comes from using, dealing on drugs. Always report cases of cocaine and cannabis users to security agencies as drugs cannot make you a man. Youths should always keep off. Don’t touch, report drug dealers to the police or the agency. Drug dealers live with us here in the society, most of them are our brothers and sisters.”
The 53- year- old- suspect, Madam Sinoroba John, was reported to have confessed to the crime and claimed she has been engaged in the illicit trade in the last five years. She claimed that it was her only source of livelihood and proceeds used to train her children in schools.
